Samsung Unveils World’s First Crease-Free Flexible OLED Display at CES 2026

January 6 – At CES 2026, Samsung Display showcased the world’s first flexible OLED panel with no visible crease. Reports indicate that the screen will debut on Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Apple’s first foldable iPhone Fold may also adopt this display.

To highlight the advantage of the crease-free design, Samsung set up a dedicated demonstration area comparing the new flexible OLED screen (right) with current OLED panels (left). The difference is clear: the new foldable OLED panel shows no trace of a crease, suggesting Samsung has effectively solved an industry-wide challenge. Samsung claims the new panel delivers a “seamless display in the folding area,” offering an immersive viewing experience free of visual distractions.

The showcased panel is part of Samsung’s new “Mont Flex” technology lineup. Its key strength lies in maintaining a smooth, flat appearance even when folded. Viewed from various angles, the center of the screen shows almost none of the creasing typical of current foldable phones, and no noticeable dip can be felt when touched—a significant improvement over many foldable devices on the market.

Reports also reveal that Samsung’s new flexible OLED display uses a laser-perforated metal display plate, supplied by Korean company Fine M-Tec. This component helps distribute stress when the screen is folded, contributing to the crease-free effect. Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to use the same part.

Renowned leaker Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) posted on X: “Breaking! Samsung showed a foldable screen with no visible crease at CES 2026. The panel offers excellent overall display quality, incorporates an under-display camera, and most importantly, has no crease at all. This display technology is expected to be used in the iPhone Fold, which may launch in September.”

Ice Universe added that Samsung’s own foldables could also adopt the technology in the future, provided costs align with product planning.

The market has long speculated that Apple is collaborating with Samsung Display on a customized panel for the iPhone Fold, with Apple setting an extremely high bar for crease performance. For Apple, a foldable device must look and feel close to a traditional slab-style phone to win over consumers. Therefore, achieving a nearly invisible crease is a key factor in the iPhone Fold’s potential release.

However, foreign media note that the Mont Flex prototype shown at CES may not be the final version for the iPhone Fold. Apple is rumored to prefer a display ratio closer to 4:3, differing from Samsung’s current foldables. Still, the mechanical structure and panel technology represented by Mont Flex are likely to form the core foundation of the device.

It is worth noting that, alongside the crease-free design, the durability of this flexible OLED display has also been improved. While Samsung continues to lead in flexible OLED innovation, other makers such as LG are also advancing their own flexible OLED technologies, contributing to a more competitive and rapidly evolving foldable display market.
