On September 3, TrendForce released its latest report, 2025 Near-Eye Display Market Trends and Technology Analysis, indicating that the AR glasses market is entering a critical growth phase.
According to the report, global AR glasses shipments are expected to reach 600,000 units in 2025 and then soar to 32.1 million units by 2030. Compared with this year’s shipments, that represents a more than 50-fold increase, signaling that the industry is standing on the “eve of an explosion.”
The current AR glasses landscape is already showing clear signs of acceleration. From 2025 onward, international brands are stepping up their efforts: multiple AR glasses prototypes are being introduced, and Meta is reportedly preparing to launch its Celeste AR glasses. At the same time, the continued decline in the cost of near-eye display components—especially OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) / Micro OLED microdisplays—has driven both market attention and end-user demand higher.
Looking at the longer-term trajectory, TrendForce expects that starting around 2028, advanced full-color AR display technologies will gradually mature. Next-generation near-eye solutions based on OLEDoS and Micro OLED will be deployed in more commercial products from major global brands, becoming a key driver behind the sharp rise in AR glasses shipments.
From a regional perspective, China is currently the primary shipment base for AR glasses. However, as global tech giants such as Meta and Google accelerate their entry into the space, the competitive landscape will be reshaped. By 2030, China’s share of global AR glasses shipments is projected to decline to 50.2%, leading to a more balanced worldwide market distribution.
