What Does “Round Display” Mean?
A round display is a circular or special-shaped display module designed for products where a traditional rectangular screen does not fit the product form. It is commonly used in smartwatches, smart home controllers, medical devices, industrial meters, vehicle displays, VR systems, and compact embedded products.
Depending on the application, a round display can use TFT-LCD, OLED, AMOLED, Memory LCD, or touch panel technology. The right choice depends on screen size, resolution, brightness, power consumption, interface, touch function, and final product structure.

Round/Circular LCD and OLED
Round Display are used in Smartwatches, Medical devices, Automotive displays, Smart homes, Supermarket displays, conference devices, etc. For example, KIGO Watch, Moto 360 Sport, Asus Zenwatch 2, MyKronoz ZeRound2, Samsung Gear 2, Amazfit Stratos/Pace Multisport, Mondaine Helvetica 1, New Balance RunIQ, Nixon Mission, ZTE Quartz, and Huawei Watch Elegant/Jewel are using 1.39 inch round OLED for the smartwatch.Both round LCD and OLED are cut by laser, usually, the bottom is not circular because the display chip needs to be placed there.
But the COF technology has solved this problem, COF means a chip on FPC, and the manufacturer doesn`t need to place the chip on the display screen.
Because the same cell area could cut fewer round displays than square or rectangle displays, so the cost of round LCD/OLED is higher. And for LCD, it`s more difficult to produce a round backlight.
